An old steam locomotive against a unique backdrop – feel the tons of steel
The small village of Kusfors, today with about 25 inhabitants, experienced its boom in 1898 when the railway line from Bastuträsk to Jörn ran through the village and a railwaystation was built. Two years later, a post office followed, and later a general store and an inn. By the mid-20th century, the village had over 100 inhabitants, was a popular trading center, and housed several general stores, cafes, a sawmill, and other businesses. After the construction of the new railway bridge over the Skellfteälven River in 1993, the now straightened line bypassed Kusfors, and train service was discontinued. Shortly before the railway network was shut down, a small group of railway enthusiasts campaigned to have an old steam locomotive placed as a memorial on a short section of track in Kusfors in front of the old station building. This project was made possible by the Railway Museum in Gävle. To keep the place alive, the Café Ångloket (Swedish for steam locomotive) was opened.
