Natural rapids in untouched wilderness
The forest in Karsbäcken is rather unusual for this area. It is characterized by a striking number of deciduous trees and a hilly landscape. The small gorge was carved by permanent ice.
The rapids are located in an overgrown area, which is why the drops are clearly visible but unguarded. You can park your car on the side of the road. A small, somewhat overgrown path leads along the gorge into the forest. After reaching the rapids, you can follow the stream or the path to its confluence with the Skellefteälven River, where there is a barbecue area. The facilities are a bit dated, but the spot and the shallow bank are inviting for relaxing, barbecuing, and swimming.
The return trip can be made via a sandy track that bridges the difference in elevation between the parking area and the Skellefteälven River.
Please note: the steep, sandy track is not suitable for motorized vehicles. Recovery and towing are difficult and expensive on the narrow, steep road.
